Note: The ride has been completed with fundraising having reached approximately $4,500. For this reason, the ride ended in Quebec City. However, to make the ride more interesting, the route went along Route Verte 1 – a route between Montreal and Quebec City via an indirect route through the Eastern Townships. This route went from Montreal to Longueuil, Bromont, Sherbrooke, Richmond, Victoriaville, and ended in Quebec City. The original plan is below.
As I plan this trip I’m finding that while there are not many posting online who have done the exact route from Toronto to Halifax (or even Montreal to Halifax) there are no shortage of people who have done parts of it. From them, and a bit of work over at google maps, a general itinerary is coming together. From Montreal it looks like my daily milestones will look like (generally speaking – there may be some changes before I leave):
Trois Rivieres, QC
Quebec QC
St-Roch-des-Aulnaies, QC
Riviere du Loup, QC
Rimouski, QC
Val-Brillant, QC
Campbellton, NB
Lavillette, NB (Or maybe as far as Miramichi)
Cocagne, NB
Murray Corner, NB
Charlottetown, PEI
Pictou, NS
Truro, NS (there may be a better route in this case than the TCH in which case Truro might not be the exact stop)
Halifax, NS
This will leave me a total of seven days to split up for breaks, travel home, and “the unexpected” (of which I hope there’s little – at least of the bad kind). The next step will be to find lodging in or near each of these towns. In order of preference, staying with friends would be best, or “verified friends of friends” – couchsurfing.com may be used in this case. After that, if the weather’s good, camping will be the next option, followed by hostels with hotels as a last resort (the post-Montreal stretch is funded totally out of pocket and is nearly 3 weeks long so I need to watch the expenses) Therefore anyone who knows anyone along the way who may feel like hosting a weary traveler from Toronto, please give me a shout. As I get closer to the departure date I’ll be sure to post more detailed maps for the curious.
